The means the advice is provided based on the best outcome from various options, rather than taking the rate that is allowed to the business by the bank. Typically, terms will be negotiated and interest rates will be compared between bank offers – these offers are often used as leverage to lower the rate from another offer.

When you speak to your bank there is no requirement to lower the offered rate. However, when your bank knows you are speaking to other banks they will offer the best rate possible. Often this rate may not even be the lowest in the market.
